 Story context:

Once upon a time there were two villages by the river. But the people of these villages do not like talking to each other and being together.

Characters:

  • Wise Man: A person who believes in a unified lifestyle.
  • Village People: At first did not appreciate his efforts but later valued the friendship.

Story:

Once upon a time there were two villages, one on the left side of the river and the other on the right side of the river. The people of these two villages were not together. They do not like to talk to each other, nor do they like to share crops, goods or ideas. Each village considered itself separate and neglected each other.

One day, a wise man came to that place. The wise man noticed that the people of these two villages on one side did not mix with those on the other side. He understood that these two villages were isolated.

The sage thought to himself, “How about building a bridge? Then these villages will know how easy it is to meet.

He immediately started work. Taking wood, stone and iron, he started building a strong bridge over that river. The people of both the villages watched his work with interest. Some mocked him and said, “Why is he building a bridge? We don't need to go to the other side", he thought.

But the sage ignored their words. He worked hard day and night until finally the bridge was completed. It was wide and strong enough for anyone to cross safely.

First, no one crossed the bridge. Both the villagers looked at the bridge and wondered why it was built. A man, boldly crossing the first, met a man on the other side. They talked, shared stories and learned about each other's lives. Soon, others started crossing the bridge trading fruits, vegetables and handicrafts.

Villagers started meeting each other frequently, sharing their views, learning new skills and helping each other in times of trouble. These two villages, which were separate till then, have now become one big village. They started celebrating festivals together and helping each other.

The sage was shocked to see them. He made these villages find friendship and peace by building a bridge instead of a barrier.

Moral Of the story is:

After the sage has worked hard to build a bridge, the two villages begin to meet through the bridge, sharing fruits, vegetables and goods. In this way friendship is formed with the people in the other village.
